Traveler Resources

  • BootsnAll Travel - Resources for the independent traveler including a thorough list of round-the-world travel tips and high quality discussion forums.
  • CouchSurfing - A social network of people seeking to create worldwide cross-cultural connections by making their couches available to travelers, and staying on strangers' couches during their own travels.
  • Lonely Planet - This travel book publisher's site is a great first stop for basic information about all your possible destinations.
  • Zicasso - A shiny new site that aims to ease the pain of trip planning. Lauren knows the founders and can vouch for their passion. The Wall Street Journal thinks they're pretty hot too.

Travel Writing and Blogs we Read

Our Friends and Family

Things Lauren Used to Build This Website

  • Joomla - Open source good.
  • Firefox - Microsoft bad. IE6 must die.
  • Flickr - All the rage with the cool kids.
  • Taylor Made Coffee - Not only is it fair trade, organic and shade-grown, this coffee is made from "heirloom cultivars" on family farms and we buy it from at-risk teens at our locally-owned neighborhood pie shop. Yes, it makes our farts smell like rainbows.

A Few (ok, a LOT) of Our Favorite Things

  • Obama - If he's half as good as we hope he'll be, 2009 will be a great year. Let's make it happen - the whole world is counting on us!
  • San Francisco Tenants Union - fighting for your rights so you too can barely afford to live in San Francisco.
  • Rent Control -
  • Pierre Valley Neighborhood Organization - "Where neighbors are friends and friends are neighbors!"
  • Burning Man - Home of Yum Camp's Taste Wagon (reborn as the Yum Cart), Prophe-see T.V. and The Society's The Perambulator.
  • Black Rock Arts Foundation - Bringing art back from the playa into the real world.
  • San Francisco Bicycle Coalition - We credit not owning a car as one of the main reasons we can afford our round the world trip. Become a member of the Bike Coalition, get your ass on your bike, and save for your own travels.
  • Carrot Mob - Organizing people to reward businesses that do good things, like a reverse boycott.
  • Full Circle Fund - Empowering business people to give back in a big way. Lauren helped build this place from the ground up.
  • Young Nonprofit Professionals Network - YNPN supports the most inspiring do-gooders in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Become a member and make your boss pay the membership fee as part of your professional development.
  • Galileo High School - Where Todd served as substitute-teacher-artist before our travels. Check out the blog for the Library, where Todd was a permanent sub during the 2007-2008 school year.
  • Burritos - Oh how we'll miss thee.
  • Roach - The most rockin' of 80s rock bands from upper Manitoba.
  • Mission Greenbelt Project - Greenifying the Mission with urban earth artwork.
  • Frank Chu - The most fabulous eccentric in San Francisco. He's everywhere.
  • BoingBoing - Dork out.
  • Pandora - Discover music you didn't know you like.
  • Facebook - Hush, you know you like it too.
